BANGKOK, June 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- (Nasdaq: BNET) The government has approved the first clinical trial of sildenafil, marketed as Viagra, in the treatment of erectile dysfunction in Thai men.
The trial is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, double-dummy, phase 3, double-masked, parallel group study of 100 Thai men with erectile dysfunction who were enrolled at a general medicine clinic in Bangkok.
The study was conducted in the capital city and the capital city of Thammasat, at two levels of public and private clinics in the southern district of Bangkok, the capital city of Bangkok and the city of Bangkok. The study subjects were randomly assigned to take the sildenafil 30 mg or placebo pills on either the first day of the trial or a subsequent day, depending on the reason for treatment and the response to the trial.
The trial was run in patients with erectile dysfunction who were not taking any treatment for ED and had at least one additional significant side effect such as a decrease in sexual desire or arousal, or difficulty in achieving orgasm. Patients taking sildenafil had a response rate of about 70%.
The study was not planned for enrollment, and the results may not be generalizable to other patients.
The study was approved by the ethical board of the Central Research Center in the United States, the ethics board of the United Kingdom and the U. S. National Institutes of Health, and the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, and the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
